Accessibility
We take accessibility seriously and have made every effort to ensure the site's content is available to as many people as possible. If you are using an alternative browsing device and are experiencing difficulties accessing the site, please contact us.
Standards compliance
Wherever possible, appropriate standards have been followed to ensure access to as wide a range of browsers/devices as possible. We have endeavoured to comply with the relevant checkpoints described in the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and, to the best of our knowledge, have implemented all appropriate guidelines.
Visual considerations
Various measures have been taken to ensure that individuals with varying degrees of colour blindness can properly read text and links. In particular, and in accordance with WCAG checkpoints, we have tried to convey meaning without relying on colour alone. For example, all hyper-links on the site are underlined by default so as to be distinguishable in flowing text when colour is not available, or not interpreted correctly in the case of colour blindness. If, despite our best efforts, you are still experiencing difficulties related to the use of colour on this site, please contact us.
To enhance accessibility for individuals with poor eye sight, we have used relative font sizing throughout the site. As a result text can be increased in size quite considerably in all modern browsers; for example, in Windows Internet Explorer text can be increased using the text-size option under the view menu.
Browser/device limitations
Browsers/devices without the ability to interpret scripting languages like Javascript, display images, or even interpret style information (CSS) should still be able to access the site. Thanks to semantic mark up, the site contents should still make sense even when all of these features are unavailable.
Access keys
Many web sites designed with accessibility in mind employ a feature known as 'access keys'. Though this feature would undeniably be useful to those with impaired mobility, or even individuals who simply prefer keyboard navigation, serious problems with their implementation in existing web browsers ultimately render them useless. It is with these problems in mind that we have made the conscious decision not to implement this feauture on our website.
